IntApp Releases Activity Tracker 2.0 Confidentiality and Compliance Management Application for Law Firms

Activity Tracker alerts law firms to abnormal behavior that might indicate inappropriate use or movement of confidential firm and client information, providing management alerts that enable early intervention

February 2010

PALO ALTO, Calif.--February 1, 2010--IntApp, Inc., the leading provider of risk management, time capture and integration software for the legal industry, today announced the availability of Activity Tracker 2.0. Activity Tracker is a web-based confidentiality and compliance management application that monitors user behavior and trends in firm document management systems. When activity strays outside of the ordinary, it sends alerts that give management a warning of potential problems and an early opportunity to intervene and protect firm interests.

"With clients expressing growing concerns about firm treatment of their confidential information, and new government regulations explicitly targeting law firms, it's vitally important that organizations take all available steps to secure and manage sensitive information," said John Guyer, IT Director, Hinckley, Allen & Snyder LLP. "We've been using IntApp Activity Tracker, in conjunction with IntApp Wall Builder for confidentiality enforcement, for several years. It's proven an invaluable aid in helping us address our compliance obligations and minimizing risk for the firm."

Law firms must keep close tabs on how lawyers and staff treat client information. At an organizational level, firms must comply with several professional duties including confidentiality and records management obligations. At the level of individual attorneys, unusually high document check out volume is often a warning sign of an impending lateral departure.

Lawyer departures create significant expense and risk for a law firm. According to one industry study, lawyer turnover costs the average firm $35 million annually in direct costs and lost opportunities. Furthermore, competitive and even malpractice dangers are fueled when client information is transported prior to official consent, or when attorneys take work product from non-migrating clients or the firm's knowledge management library. With the help of Activity Tracker, several IntApp clients have:

  • Successfully intervened early to prevent lateral defections by identifying lawyers planning departures
  • Blocked inappropriate treatment or leakage of firm and client information
  • Improved internal utilization of firm applications and enhanced user productivity

Activity Tracker works with existing firm applications and is transparent to firm personnel. It doesn't obstruct routine activity. Instead, it sends email reports and detailed alerts only when configurable warning thresholds are exceeded. The latest product release adds significant enhancements including user interface improvements, more extensive reporting options and a new management dashboard.

"The release of Activity Tracker 2.0 is just the latest milestone in our ongoing mission to provide law firms with the technology, services and expertise necessary to address the confidentiality management and compliance requirements facing their organizations," said Thad Jampol, Chief Technology Officer, IntApp. "As proven by industry surveys and broad product adoption, IntApp continues to extend our position as the leader in this domain."
